Gay Rights Activists Crack Down on The Simpsons
November 14th 2008 17:04
Looks like using the term 'that's so gay' is simply unacceptable even within the context of some yello school yard bully...

Many people also say such words as 'fuck', 'asshole', 'shit', 'prick' without 'realizing' it's bad. When was the last time a word was successfully banned from school?
If one gay-rights group has its way, Nelson Muntz will be writing "I will not be homophobic" on Mrs. Krabappel's schoolhouse chalkboard.
Bart Simpson's cartoon nemesis is being blasted for his use of the schoolyard taunt "that's so gay" while bullying resident nerd Milhouse Van Houten in The Simpsons' annual Halloween episode airing last Sunday.
But the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network says the remark is nothing to laugh at.
"Many people say gay without even realizing what they're saying is bad,'" GLSEN spokesman Daryl Presgraves tells E! News.

As to your question of when was the last time a word was successfully banned from school...
"God" Although that was supposed to be banned way back when the country was founded, but many forget to realize that and fight for something different.

God isn't banned from public schools, especially in the US where there is legislation passed which explicitly gives a public school the right to religion.
Furthermore it's a ridiculous claim to make 'god' was banned from public schools in the US from the countries founding, there were no public schools then.
It's jsut as dumb an argument as some annoying infomercial I once saw about how the founding fathers never meant for religion to be separated from public schools.

Misleading at best, what they did was ensure a religious organization would never be reflective of the country (like the church of england). That is what sepeartion of chuch and state is about, not keeping religion out of public schools or public life
